Great Drives around Crested Butte- Each around 1-2 Hours
Ohio Creek Road to Kebler Pass: Go north toward CB from Gunnison and take a left on Ohio Creek Rd before you get to Almont. You will see the “castles” – beautiful craggy mountaintops on your left. You go up Ohio Creek Pass (very easy and goooorgeous) to Kebler Pass Rd. Turn right and you end up in Crested Butte! Call it the long way ‘round to cb!
Great Drive - Crested Butte-Kebler Pass - Lost Lake
Crested Butte-Lost Lake. If you are starting in CB, head north on Whiterock and you will go up and over a small hill and head toward Lake Irwin. Take a left (don’t go to lake Irwin) and continue on County Rd. 12 past Horse Ranch Park thru to the LARGEST aspen grove in the U.S. It is a magnificent sight at any time of year. When you come to Lost Lake, turn on in and walk around the lake. It is too beautiful.
Great Drive - Crested Butte-Almont - Taylor Lake
Crested Butte to Almont to Taylor Lake -From Crested Butte, go to Almont: and drive up the Taylor Rive to Taylor lake on the Taylor Canyon Road. Go north around Taylor Lake and loop back to Almont on Spring Creek Rd. Then drive back to Crested Butte!
Great Drive - Crested Butte-Gothic - Emerald Lake
Crested Butte to Gothic to Emerald Lake: Drive the 3 miles from Crested Butte to Mt Crested Butte and on to Gothic on hwy 135. Gothic was a mining town and is adorable, and now home to the Rocky Mountain Biological Lab, a scientific field station. Keep driving after Gothic and head to Emerald Lake, a picturesque gorgeous lake. Have a picnic!
